How to create a social media content strategy in 3 easy steps!

As a social media manager and strategist, I've created countless strategies for clients. Having worked with brands with 53K+ followers that have been featured in the media and are franchising around the country, as well as having built accounts from 0, I've developed a pristine understanding on what needs to go into a successful strategy for social media.

At F1rstly Marketing, we've also mastered Attraction Marketing, which plays a big part in creating great content and developing a strategy. Check out our article all about attraction marketing here and find out how you can use it for your business also.

Whether you are creating a strategy for Instagram, Tik Tok, LinkedIn, YouTube, or any other social media platform, it's important to keep the following 3 aspects in mind:

→GOAL SETTING

Every solid strategy always need to start off with a goal. Having an end result to strive towards and understanding it inside and out is the key to anything you do beyond that point. For example, you strategy will look vastly different if you are trying to build a community and brand awareness vs getting new leads and converting them to clients. Ensure you are establishing a SMART [specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound] to set yourself and your team up for success and set realistic expectations for everyone.

→RESEARCH

This step is a non-negotiable. Whether you are launching a brand, a program, a product, or simply looking to create some solid content, this step is crucial.

Without understanding the market and your ideal target audience, you can't expect your content to work for you. Some examples of research you need to perform are:

  • Market research (Find out your target audience's desires, fears, objections, and biggest struggles.)

  • Trend research (Especially on platforms like Instagram or Tik Tok, it's important to keep track of trends. Although my favorite rule of thumb is- 80% unique 20% trend content.)

  • Competitive research (This will be especially important when preparing a launch.)

→ACTIONABLE STEPS

Once you've got your plan mapped out, ensure you are taking the appropriate actions to actually do the strategy. This seems like a no-brainer, but you'd be surprised at how often I see a strategy being created but not properly executed. Whether you need to schedule it on your calendar if you're a solopreneur, or need to have a big team meeting to ensure everyone knows what their role is in bringing this strategy to life, it's going to be extremely important to set everyone up for success with planned actionable steps. Establish a timeline (how many months you will be testing this strategy for and what each week will look like during that time). Ensure everyone has their goals each week to contribute to the success of the strategy.

But it doesn't end there! Your post-strategy workflow is just as important. Ensure you have a plan in place to track different aspects of the strategy, overall results, and how you can adjust it moving forward.
